Below, we’re going to be talking you through how you can clean your beeswax wraps to keep them in tip-top condition. Read on.

Beeswax Wraps: Cleaning Instructions

To help you ensure that your beeswax wraps offer you long life and stay in optimum condition, below we’re going to be talking you through some of the top cleaning instructions that you should follow to make sure that you are optimally maintaining your beeswax wraps. Let’s take a look below:

Make Sure That You’re Only Using Cold Water

First things first, one of the biggest things that you should remember when cleaning your beeswax wraps is that they should only ever be washed using cold water.

When people make the switch to reusable beeswax food wraps, many people can often make the mistake of accidentally washing their beeswax wraps with warm or hot water, which can cause the wax to begin to loosen and break down – leading to the need for a replacement.

We’re sure that you don’t want that to happen, so you should be sure to only wash your beeswax wraps with cold water, as this will help to keep your beeswax wraps intact for longer. Alternatively, you could even choose to avoid submerging your beeswax underwater at all, and instead simply choose to clean your used beeswax wraps with a cold, damp cloth.

Don’t Be Afraid To Give Them A Good Wash!

Even though beeswax wraps are a little bit more delicate than other kinds of food wraps, that doesn’t mean that they won’t be able to withstand a good scrub.

For the best results, we recommend mixing your cold water with a little bit of dish detergent and then dipping a soft sponge into the water.

From there, you will then be able to go in with the sponge and carefully begin to thoroughly clean your beeswax food wraps until they are all clean, and all of the excess food has been cleaned away.

Allow Them To Air Dry

After you have thoroughly cleaned your beeswax wraps and you are ready to dry them off, we recommend that you simply hang them on your dish rack to dry off naturally.

Allowing your beeswax food wraps to dry naturally via the air will help to preserve them and keep them intact for longer, although do keep in mind that you could also opt to hand dry them with a towel if you prefer.

If you do wish to wipe your beeswax food wraps dry with a hand towel, then we strongly recommend that you make sure to gently pat them dry, as wiping them aggressively could cause the wax to begin to break apart.

Beeswax Wraps: Top Care Tips

So, now that you know about how to properly clean your beeswax wraps, we are now going to be talking you through some of the best ways that you can help to prolong the life and quality of your beeswax wraps. Check them out below:

Tip #1 – Avoid Using A Microwave

Though it might feel tempting to throw your wrap inside a microwave in order to warm up your food, it’s highly recommended that you do not do this, as placing your reusable wrap inside a microwave for even just a few seconds could cause your beeswax wraps to begin melting and breaking down – which is something that you certainly don’t want to do!

Tip #2 – Allow Hot Food To Cool

As we’re sure you have most likely already guessed by now, beeswax doesn’t hold up very well when exposed to heat, so it’s a good idea to make sure that you try and avoid it as much as possible.

So, if you have some food that you would like to place inside your reusable beeswax wraps, then you should make sure to allow any hot food to cool before placing them inside your beeswax wraps, as if the food is too hot, this could cause your beeswax wraps to begin to melt and become unusable.

Tip #3 – Store Them Properly

Another great tip to remember when caring for your beeswax food wraps is to make sure that you are storing them correctly.

More often than not, beeswax wraps are best stored either in a container or a bowl, with a lid in order to keep them from becoming dirty.

Nevertheless, regardless of how you choose to store your beeswax wraps, we strongly recommend that you make sure to store them somewhere dry, that will be out of direct sunlight so that they do not become hot and begin to melt. The last thing you want to do is go to reach for your beeswax wraps, only to discover that they have melted!

Tip #4 – Rejuvenate Them Every 1-3 Months

Even though your beeswax wraps are designed to last you for a long time, it’s only to be expected that they will begin to look a little bit worn out as time goes on.

So, instead of splashing the cash on a new set of beeswax wraps, you can instead opt to rejuvenate them via the following method:

  • Grab some baking paper and set it out on an oven tray. Place your beeswax food wraps on top of the baking paper.
  • Preheat your oven to the lowest setting possible.
  • Place your baking tray that contains your beeswax food wraps inside your oven for 2 minutes. All the while, make sure that you are keeping a close eye on your beeswax food wraps so that they do not begin to melt.
  • Remove your baking tray and inspect your beeswax food wraps, you should notice that they appear visibly rejuvenated, with all of the creases and folds from regular use gone.
